Tell Me Something Good

Today I'm linking up with
to tell you something good that's happening at home and at school!

Something Good at Home: My house is clean, laundry is done, and groceries are stalked.  My husband and I have a very busy Spring Semester (Well, my semesters are always busy! I am a teacher...after all!).  Things quickly add up-like dirty clothes and dirty dishes.  It had been two weeks since I did laundry and even longer since I had gotten groceries.  I think Mr. Husband had been surviving off of pickles and coffee.  Yesterday, after going up to the school to get some work done, I headed over to the local HEB (if you do not have one of these around...you are missing out!).  Then, instead of blogging hanging out with friends, I took care of things around the house.  It sounds lame, but I feel so much better now that things are taken care of! Do you ever have those Saturday nights where you clean and organize?  Or am I the only one with a problem?

Something Good at School: My students are having a hard time getting along with each other.  My classroom dynamic has changed a lot over the year and I think my students are having a hard time adjusting this time around.  So this week I read Shubert is a S.T.A.R. during our family meeting time.  And then we discussed things we could add to our classroom to help calm down when we are upset.

I brought some lotions from home and slapped a label on them.

On Thursday, I introduced the Cranky Cream, Focus Formula, and Kindness Cream.  We all tried them out and then I put them in the basket in our safe place (next to the timer, calm jar, and Shubert).

It has worked WONDERS!
So many of my students get upset throughout the day, and learning is lost.  Now, they go to the safe place, rub a little lotion on, and come right back to learning.

They are happier students.

I'm a happier teacher.

Works like a charm!

I think every teacher should have a safe place with resources for students to calm down.
Do you have one?

  1. OK, that is adorable ... kindness cream... love LOVE love!! I have a big red crab pillow {fondly known at the crabby chair} where kids can cool off ... I'm thinking some of your antidotes would be a nice additions!

  3. I use my "Cranky Cream" once a week or so. Last week I sent my class messenger to get it for me. The entire class was silent while I put it on. It really is wonderful. We don't have a safe place, but we practice breathing every day. I love that time. Shubert ROCKS! (And I spent some time last night cleaning around the house, what a good feeling.)
